Mt. Daisen, Paradise for Leisure and Outdoor Sports Enthusiasts in National Park of Tottori Prefecture
Mt. Daisen (1,729 meters) is part of the Daisen-Oki National Park. While you’ll see just regular towns and roads throughout the area, the designation means development is regulated and some wild plants and animals are protected. It's located only a few kilometers inland from the Japan Sea coast and rises dramatically from the lowlands, encompassing a wide range of coastal and mountain ecosystems. The pristine forests and fields offer a perfect place to escape urban Japan. Mt. Daisen is one of the best-kept secrets in Western Japan and evokes comparisons with Mt. Fuji. The mountain provides fantastic hiking throughout the year and some of the best skiing on the west coast in the winter season. The mountain also has one of Japan's top peaks with vegetation stretching to its peak with far fewer visitors, it's a more rewarding and enriching trip for many visitors. Better than Mt. Fuji?
You can go for a further walk to the nearby attractions like Adachi Museum of Art which features a large collection of paintings by Yokoyama Taikan (1868-1958) known for his paintings of Mt. Fuji and other modern Japanese artists as well. It's one of the premiere collections of Japanese arts and founded by a local businessperson who was passionate about art and equally interested in Japanese gardens. The museum's garden is simply spectacular and has been named the best in Japan in the annual ranking by the Journal of Japanese Gardening. Its 41 acres consist of fine examples of various garden types from dry landscape and moss gardens to ponds and waterfalls. The variety means the garden area's seasonal splendor can be enjoyed all year around.
